A great crafty experience today! Craft 2.0 in Christchurch – a fair of 40 craft exhibitors in one of Christchurch’s beautiful old buildings. It was a curated exhibition which resulted in a very high standard of craft available. There was a wide range of craft available including quite a lot of jewelerey that was a fraction of the price that similar items cost in some of the exclusive fashion shops. However after quickly falling for a brightly coloured recycled cardy my shopping budget was overspent so I was very restrained – well that is if you do not count the cardy.
One of those “I could make that” moments, except my sister and I were saying it to our mother Rosie. Fabulous shop with lots of outrageously expensive things, including a scarf with a loop at one end and tassles at the other. Of course Rosie made it with pure wool and it is so much the nicer for how it came about!
Fantastic for storage – nothing new about that, but it sure is great to make something useful. The star box I bought as a ready to paint and then followed a design from a book. It has stored my fabric bits and bods that I must use one day! I love the gold paint and the effect it has.
We had just moved into our rather ramshackle old cottage and I wanted to decorate! Well we could afford the paint to tidy up the inside but not much more. A collection of plates was perfect for the kitchen wall but I did not have many. However I did have plain plates and acrylic paints. I knew they were no good on china but I found a work around. As a purely decorative item only, I glued fabric onto the plate and painted on that. It cannot be used for food or washed but it is very stable otherwise – just like a canvas. Filled the gap perfectly.
Needed to decorate children’s room, needed storage, and had no money – but did have paints and shoe box. I painted it to match a quilt that my Mum had made and it stores all the cards my daughter has been given. Memories are all safely stored, fun for her to go through and looks great on a shelf.
