I have always wanted to do mosaics but have been put off by the specialist gear needed and not knowing where to start. But when I saw a super cheap kit I bought two so my careful crafty friend and I could have a go. It was really easy and fun – I loved it and have lots of plans for more mosaics.

The basic steps is to draw the design on whatever you are tiling, break up the tiles with a tile nibbler or hammer, glue them on so they fill in the shapes to make the picture. When the glue is dry then push the grout all in around the tiles, when it is dry enough polish it off the top of the tiles – done! Although I need to seal my one for outside as the grout is not a waterproof type.

I made this a while ago but in light of the current focus on recycle and re-use I thought it a useful idea to post. A simple idea and my first attempt at quilting so it is not well executed, but I also think it would be a great learning one for kids. It is a brick covered in padding and tough denim fabric with a hand painted and quilted design for the top.

My sister has a pretty full on job, to relax she used to do karate – now she makes tea cozies! I requested one for my birthday, she made me this cupcake one which she made up herself adapting patterns that she had.

She is so clever and my tea really does taste better!

	Cut various shapes from tissue paper. The shapes do not need to be neat.
	Roll one end of a pipe cleaner into a snug spiral.
	Start threading the pieces of tissue onto the pipe cleaner.
	Keep threading more pieces of tissues onto the pipe cleaner.
	Push all the tissue to the end and scrunch and shape the flower.
	Now make lots of flowers using different colors and shapes.

This is so much fun! Great results really fast, my kinda craft. I first did these as an activity at my daughters ‘crafty’ 7th birthday party – they were a huge hit. I have started to get a little more creative with them and made some with fancy stamens and different types of petals. Any shape that can be threaded is worth trying!
